A few of his favorite things

October 4, 2008

It’s early October, which means it’s time for me to start thinking about Christmas presents. (Inevitably, I’ll vow to have everything wrapped and ready for the tree by Thanksgiving but still be out shopping on December 24.)

This is Jack’s first year of happy holidays, and I’m excited to make him a stocking, dress him up in something red, and take lots of photos. It’s my first Christmas as a parent, but I’m seasoned enough from younger siblings and years of nannying to know that the wrapping paper will be the baby’s favorite gift.

Lucky for our budget, all the best things in Jack’s life are practically free. If he were making a holiday wishlist, it would also include newspapers, magazines, plastic grocery sacks and an empty travel pack of baby wipes. That’s our boy, already learning the merits of recycling.

My children loved to play with the boxes! What’s not to love about that?
