Who needs the zoo…

February 9, 2009

…when you have neighbors with a knack for domesticating local wildlife?

On Saturday the fam – minus my sister Rachel, who couldn’t make it over from Madrid but who appeared via a photo my mother carried – all visited my dad, who is still out of power but making the most of it, and my brother, who is building a house nearby. Because we don’t have 4-wheel drive, we usually park at his gate and walk down. This time, a friendly deer was there to greet us. (This is a friendly deer with a backstory: Lucky was rescued via emergency cesarean section after his mother got caught in a barbed wire fence and died.)

This buck followed me around all afternoon. He walked with us to Dad’s, Jesse’s, and back up the hill.  Strolling in the forest with woodland creatures? This is the stuff that my childhood dreams were made of. Very Bambi-meets-enchanted princess (15 years late).

Somehow I missed this post! You and your sisters look a lot alike!

Lucky is hilarious! He just wants to be your friend Leslie! Give him a hug! Or is it a her?… those are some seriously cute pictures though!
