Demolition day

June 11, 2009

For my birthday, we took out the multipurpose room. “They” is more accurate, because my in-laws, aunt and uncle and sister all preferred working on the crew to babysitting Jack. I mostly held the baby (also known as the long end of the stick).

Within the first two hours, the room was open on two ends. By the time happy hour rolled around on Saturday, the studs were exposed. It all ended on Sunday afternoon with an actual chainsaw massacre, which brought down the roof.

I was surprised at how few critters were dislodged by the teardown: only a family of little ring-neck snakes, which came out of one of the walls, and a nest of baby phoebes, which came off of another, were put out.

So now we’re in a studio house. This has really put the “living” in living room, where we’re sleeping, dressing, storing and playing (we still have a kitchen and bathroom). Jack seemed only briefly confused by the missing room and suddenly exterior door.

We have less breathing room, and he has less toddling room, but as long as we have indoor plumbing, we’re staying put.

Snakes in a wall?!? Are you kidding me? Freaky! Congrats on the demolition!!! Hopefully the re-build will go smoothly and quickly… and let me know if any of those dates work for you in terms of getting together! Talk with you soon!
