Postcard from the edge of 2010

January 6, 2010

It punctuates a big decade, whether you’re thinking of you or of everyone.

For me, the last ten years held a lot of schooling. In the classroom, in love, in the office, on the road, in other homes and in mine. I finished school, loved several jobs, lost several loves. I became a wife and a mother, a homeowner and a commuter. I watched as some friends did the same, cheered on others’ adventures.

And the music! The elections! The films! The speed and portability and tiny scale of Big technology! The Googling and greening and do-it-yourselfing!

Well, now I’m dizzy. And feeling a little left behind, on account of the speedy, portable technology part. (CDs, anyone? ANYONE?) But I’ve kept up with the rest.

And 10: What a nice, round, weighty number. Of bowling pins, commandments, fingers and toes, Letterman’s lists and my first favorite Pearl Jam album.

So this year comes with high expectations for high marks – a 10, we hope.

Cheers! (We’re only six days in, so I don’t think it’s too late.)
