his comfort zone

January 21, 2010

It’s a curious case of the belly button.

It’s what he reaches for instead of a security blanket or favorite soft toy. It’s how we recognize nap time. It’s the reason we’ve rarely dressed him in one-piece anything since before his 1-year mark.

I think he likes it even more than the pacifier, but we’ll never know, as we can’t take it away. Last weekend called for a thermal union suit one day and overalls the next, and we learned that those snaps and flaps are no match for his dexterity and determination.

Curious but cute.

As I remember, I was a fan of the belly button as well 😉

I love the photos you took. Nicolo has a little blanket as a lovey and the binky which we are working on getting transitioning (getting rid of) away from. Right now we do well during the day some time but at night he has one in the mouth and one in each hand.

My daughter does the same thing! Thumb in mouth, finger in bellybutton. Her great-grandmother actually altered some one-piece jammies to give her navel access.

That’s so sweet. I have a friend whose two year old daughter reaches down into her shirt and puts her finger on her, um, nipple when she’s tired or irritable. So, I suppose it could always be curiouser?
